Announcement at 4 PM CST September 30 from the MPCA:
The likelihood of a federal government shutdown and the uncertainty over federal employees being able to participate has lead us to the decision to postpone tomorrow’s webinar until the next day and time already announced: October 29th, 2013 at 9:30 AM Central. We apologize for the inconvenience.
I will send out more information just as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.

Tomorrow is the first is a series of webinars hosted by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) to disseminate information about the problem of coal tar sealant pollution. Contrary to a previous article on this site, this session will introduce the topic as it applies to the broader Great Lakes area in the United States and Canada. The effort has already yielded results like the interactive map of sealant applicators who have pledged not to use coal tar sealants in the future.
The MPCA is the grant recipient whose mission of this effort is:
Phase-out and replacement of coal tar-based sealcoats with safer alternatives and practices will reduce loading of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) to surface waters and sediments in Great Lakes states and provinces, and reduce hazards to children and vulnerable adults playing, living or working near coal tar-sealed surfaces like drives, parking lots, and playgrounds.
Registration is free at this link.
#1 Overview of issues . . Tuesday, October 1, 9:30 – 10:30 AM Central (further discussion until 11:00)
Designed for facility managers, public works officials, sealcoat suppliers and applicators, environmental regulators, and other interested groups and individuals, this webinar will survey health, environment, and stormwater infrastructure issues stemming from the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons contained in coal tar-based sealcoat. Although we feature a Minnesota city’s experience, the issues covered will be common to Great Lakes-area states and provinces, not specific to Minnesota. Besides MPCA, presenters will be Barbara Mahler of the U.S. Geological Survey and Tom Kaldunski with the City of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota.

#2 Organizing a state- or provincial-scale coal tar reduction or phase-out program . . Tuesday, October 29, 9:30-10:30 Central
#3 Outreach education for coal tar phase-out action at the local level . . Wednesday, November 20, 9:30-10:30 Central
Thank you for your time.
