Simple Question to the Sealcoat Industry

Years ago someone asked the question of sealcoat industry members:

Which sealcoat do you prefer?

That survey was broken down by state so it was easy to see how the regions of the country vary on their sealcoat material preference. In many states more than 80% of the votes were for coal tar products.

Well that survey is so old now that the underlying software is defunct (Adobe Flash), so I thought I would ask the same question except this time we would include the new steam cracked asphalt or ethylene cracked residue products to the question which is:

Which type of sealer do you prefer for driveways and parking lots:

Below are the results the survey which should automatically update as time goes on. At the time of this writing, the votes were equally split between asphalt based and coal tar based sealers with petroleum resin a distant 3rd place.

There wasn’t a clean way to graph this info by state, so I will have to add that later in the future. If you are a member of the sealcoat industry, and want to express your sealcoat material preference, just click the link below. Only one vote per person.

What I take from this is that significant strides have been made to change the industry toward cleaner, more environmentally-friendly products. But a lot of exposure is still happening to workers and to our communities.
